Ferries to and from Kos

Travelling by plane from Kos Airport between the Greek Islands is unpractical in many cases, as a result the Greek island of Kos has 3 ports with up to 33 ferry crossings leaving the island each day of the week to various Greek islands, Athens and even Turkey during high season.

The 3 ports on Kos are located in Chora, Kardamena and Mastichari. Chora is the main port of Kos and it is located on the northeast part of the island where Kos Town is located. Kardamena is the smallest of the three ports and it is located on the southern coast while Mastichari is on the northwestern coast.

Kos is an excellent place to start island hopping since it is centrally situated among the Dodocanese island group in the southeast Aegean Sea and because it has direct ferry connections with 43 ports.

Which port you will travel from depends on where you want to go and where you are located on Kos since some islands can be reached from more than one port.

During high season there are approximately 7 departures a week to Bodrum on the Turkish coast, located only 4 km from the port of Kos, Chora, and there is at least one departure and arrival per day between Piraeus on the mainland right outside of Athens. There are options for ferry, taxi or public buses to transfer to Athens or Athens airport from there. The ferry journey between Kos and Piraeus takes around 10 hours, give or take 1 hour depending on departure and weather.
